The Feytographer

Greetings, I am a Cosplay Photographer and Archfey known by many names and faces. But you may call me “The Feytographer”. Mostly recognisable for my bright colored capes that adorn my outfit.

For several year I have been taking images of Cosplayers who ow so willingly let me, But I’m nothing but fair and I will always flip a coin to see if you get your image back or if it’s entirely mine to use and play with as I see fit.

I have many years of experience with many different tools under my belt to create exciting creative works and hopefully able to give a fun experience during the shoot. I take pride using techniques and skill I’ve picked up from doing every kind of gig.
I love trying out new things, using new and vinitage camera equipment, because I love the authentic experience and look that comes from doing as much as possible in camera.
This means using practical locations, build up sets; a combination of practical lighting and flash. As well as using whatever I have available to me to make the best possible images.

Solo images

I happily shoot one one one with you, this also gives me the most time to go through the setups, poses and visuals you might have in mind already. I work from what I’m given.
Either via a mood board to get a vibe for what you’re looking for or based on the actual character origin. Be it a game, TV series, Anime, Manga or Books; I’m sure I can make something visually striking and intersting work for you.

Depening on your Cosplay or outfit mobility and fragility we might need to take that in account and make some compromises or adjustment to what is realistically possible. without damaging you, your cosplay, equipment or the location.

Duo or group images

Besides one on one, I do of of couse also shoot with Duos, Trios or small groups depening on the location and setting. I use a combination of flash and ambient light to try and get intersting looing images that have a unqiue look and vivbe to them.

Of course there is always a possibity to emulate or recreate style and looks to match better with what the chacter / cosplay needs to shine at it’s best. Coming in with a basic plan of attack is always welcome. It is a collabrative effort to hopefully get some high quality end results.

Location shoots

Events & Conventions

I’m regularly out and about in Western Europe at Conventions and events like Elfia, Dokomi, Comic Con Stuttgart. as well as Conventions like MCM in UK or DragonCon (Atlanta), Comic Con New York in the US. Since I’m located in South-West Germany in Baden-Württemberg I do need to travel a fair distance to some of them. I grew up in the Netherlands, so I so also visit family and friends every so often. And can plan ahead to add a shoot to my schedule.

I am always looking for new images to take when cosplayers are around. Due to the nature of long distance travel or walking around Conventions I am sometimes limited in the type of equipment I have with me or on me. Sometimes, Con photos are just like that. That just means we’ll work with the limitations that that brings. My normal shooting set up uses every tool I have available that fit’s inside my car.

On location

Nothing beats the real thing if you want to have great looking results, you need to put in some effort. It’s hard to beat a grungy back-ally, a historic building or lush forest without actually shooting there. of course with some clever tricks I can make things look much better than the actual situation was. Another aspect is weather, having neon lights, moody warm ambient light , a bright sun or gloomy gray clouds are a major factor in the look of the environment. Putting in the effort to shoot in location is always worth it.

Build Studio setup

Working with what is available is also a good alternative to get a look or vibe without being too reliant on weather or available locations. Setting up a studio like enviourment with nice visuals is also something I have done plenty of time. Sometimes a location just need a little bit extra to make it look perfect. Or times the actual cosplay, modeling pose or lighting is doing all the hard work and we just need to have a non-distracting background that just looks nice.

Find me online

I have been more active on places like instagram where I post some of my work and where others have posted as a collab, if you like my work you can follow me there and of course shoot me a DM with questions.

* Unfortunatly this instagram feed plugin doesn’t show any collab posts made by others due to API limitations, so a lot of images are missing for this feed.

FAQ

Shooting times

Out and about shots at events and conventions take me less than 5-10 minutes while at a con, we’re just having some fun and getting to know each other.

Most low stakes shoots tend to take 10-30 minutes, this means getting a couple of good shots we’re happy with going into editing. Ending up with 1 – 3 featured images and maybe a couple extra’s I liked but just aren’t 100% the shoots.

A normal shoot with several poses and switching around some lighting to get unique looks tend to be 30-60 minutes up to 2-3 hours for a full on session until we have run out of idea’s and things to do. This can also mean outfit changes or moving to a different area to get shots.
It let’s me and the cosplayer(s) work without rushing to get about 5-10 featured images with of course some extra’s I didn’t want to delete because they are still good.

Pricing

Why do I not put locked in prices?

Even though Cosplay Photography is a side quest from my normal work. Costs for booked shoots are depended on if I’m already going somewhere or it I need to travel to a location. As well is the amount of effort is needed for a given shoot.
And the harsh truth is that travel cost, convention tickets, food, years of shooting experience, editing time, my equipment and insurances aren’t free.

As much as I would love to always offer low or free shoots. It just isn’t sustainable.
Of course if you and a friend book at the same time or weekend. I can always more a deal to give a minor discount. Same goes for doing multi hour or a whole day with multiple people in a group. The overall time investment security is going make it easier for me to set a shoot price.

For content that will be used for commercial needs. for example are you selling prints, give access via subscription, Ebooks etc. An additional one time licensing fee for that project will be part of the total price. Can also be done afterwards when needs have changed and you need a commercial license.
